Labor Day, observed on the first Monday in September, was established to honor the contributions and achievements of American workers. Its roots trace back to the late 19th century, a time when labor unions were fighting for fair pay, safer working conditions, and reasonable working hours. The first Labor Day parade was held in New York City on September 5, 1882. By 1894, Congress had made it a federal holiday.
While many celebrate the day with parades, barbecues, and family gatherings, the heart of Labor Day is about recognizing the hard work and dedication that keep our communities strong.
