My daughter and I were confronted with a very difficult situation a few weeks ago. Her mother (my former spouse - I will refer to her as Sara, not her real name) had been hospitalized with a stroke. We traveled to Las Vegas as soon as we could. We quickly learned that Sara's generally poor health, coupled with compulsive shopping and hoarding, had led to her townhouse becoming nearly uninhabitable. Two rooms were effectively abandoned, only one bathroom was usable, the kitchen no longer functioned, and only narrow paths through the clutter were available. We had been told that Sara would survive, and she might be discharged as soon as a week later. The task of making the house habitable again seemed insurmountable. We scouted for hoarder cleanout services and chose to contact T.A.C.T Las Vegas. Lou Brown, the owner of T.A.C.T LV, met us at the house to assess the situation. He explained their process for restoring a "Level 3 hoarding" home to fully habitable, and answered our many questions. . He provided a quote later that day, based on his assessment that it would take four days for a team of 4-6, and would fill at least one, and possibly two 40-yard dumpsters. He laid out the plan of action (remove unusable items from the garage to make storage space, begin with the upstairs bedrooms and bathrooms, move downward to the living room, finish with the kitchen). We agreed on a start date on the following week. He and his crew were waiting when we arrived, and began work immediately. We were there to answer questions. The crew checked with us constantly to be certain that nothing of value was discarded. They never rushed us and were invariably courteous. We heard "We are here to help!" countless times. In the end, we had stacks of items to be kept, items to be garage-sold, and all else went into the dumpsters (about 55 cubic yards altogether). We truly appreciated Lou's kindness and understanding of our situation. His work crews were genuinely pleasant and likable people, in addition to being professional and kind. When Sara returns home, it will be to a transformed home that still contains her most valuable possessions, and none of the clutter and grime. I have attached a before and after photo of just one room. Many thanks, Lou, and your wonderful team! I don't know how we could have made this happen without you.
